The Batyrkhan Shukenov Republican Contest of Woodwind Performers

  • About the project:
    In 2018, together with the Bulat Utemuratov’s Foundation, we held the first Batyrkhan Shukenov Republican Contest of Woodwind Performers with a total prize fund of 5,250,000 Tenge.

    The key goal of the contest is to support and draw public attention to the brass performance of Kazakhstan, encouraging young talents.

    Forty-three young performers from all over Kazakhstan took part in it, including students of musical educational institutions and professionals. Participants showed their skills in five categories: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and alto saxophone.
  • Jury:
    The jury included international masters Nicolas Krause, Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the New Europe Orchestra, France; Christian Elin, saxophonist and composer, Germany; Nikolay Popov, flutist, winner of international contests, soloist of the P.I. Tchaikovsky Grand Symphony Orchestra, Russia; Akim Mukhatzhanov, Chief Conductor of the brass orchestra of the State Academic Philharmonic of Astana City Akimat, honored worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Tanatar Nuraly, professor of Kurmangazy KNC in oboe class, honored artist of Kazakh SSR; Zhanat Yermanova, professor of Kurmangazy KNC in clarinet class, honored worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

    In the finals of the contest the young musicians performed a concert work by Mozart and Glazunov, accompanied by the orchestra “Camerata of Kazakhstan” and Nicolas Krause. The representative of the jury from France acted as the conductor of the famed ensemble that evening.

  • In the category “Flute” the II prize was awarded to Yelibayeva Khadisha (Astana), the III prize was awarded to Soltykhanova Roza (Astana).

    In the category “Oboe” Zhailaubayev Almat (Astana) won the I prize, the II prize went to Aliyev Islam (Astana) and the III prize – Abdrakhmanova Liliya (Astana).

    In the category “Clarinet” the II prize was awarded to Dautkan Tlek (Astana).

    In the category “Bassoon” Ashirmatov Olzhas (Almaty) won the I prize, the II prize went to Danabek Yerkanat (Almaty) and the III prize – Spabekov Talgat (Almaty).

    Mussaipov Arukhat (Almaty) won the I prize in the category “Alto Saxophone”, the II prize was awarded to Bemm Artur (Almaty) and the III prize to Madeniyatov Madi (Almaty).

    Darkenbayeva Aruzhan (flute, Almaty), Danilchenko Anna (clarinet, Almaty), Daulet Tolganay (clarinet, Astana) became diploma holders of the contest.
